Ruins of the Monastery of Montserrat of Onil Monument · Onil, L'Alcoià, Alicante Image of Onil, not of the place itself. The ruins of the Montserrat monastery of Onil (L'Alcoià), built between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, were attached to -or perhaps built upon- an earlier, primitive church. The building was conceived to house a beaterio, a community of religious women, but that foundation was never carried out: the monastery was never inhabited by any religious order and today survives in a ruined state.
