Iberian sites of La Serreta and El Puig Monument · Alcoi/Alcoy, L'Alcoià, Alicante Image of Alcoi/Alcoy, not of the place itself. The Iberian sites of La Serreta and El Puig are located in the municipal district of Alcoi, on the boundary with Penàguila. La Serreta, discovered in 1917 by Camil Visedo and declared a historic-artistic monument in 1931, combines a settlement and a sanctuary, with the remains of quadrangular houses laid out in long rows, occupied from the early and full Iberian period into Roman times; it was re-excavated by Visedo himself in the 1950s and by Miquel Tarradell in the 1960s. Its finds include six lead sheets written in the Graeco-Iberian alphabet, numerous Iberian terracotta votive offerings, Iberian pottery and imported Greek, Punic and Campanian ware, and a falcata with a decorated hilt from tomb 53. The materials are kept in the Camil Visedo Archaeological Museum of Alcoi. Photo: bladimiro (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Alcoi/Alcoy
