The riverside vegetation preserves poplars and willows in limited pockets, alongside Aleppo pine woods with associated scrubland. Among the fauna are fish such as the Iberian barbel (bagra) and the relict barbel, reptiles such as the viperine snake and the European pond turtle, mammals such as the stone marten, the genet, the fox and the badger, and birds such as the eagle owl and the scops owl. The site acts as an ecological corridor between the Font Roja Natural Park and the Sierra de Mariola, as well as being a traditional recreational area.
