El Molinar, the start of Alcoy's industry

The source of the river Molinar concentrated from the eighteenth century some twenty paper mills and fulling mills driven by the water. There began the industrialisation of the city, which moved from cigarette paper and cloth to steam and to metallurgy during the nineteenth century.
