Settlement charter of 1256

Historical milestone · Alcoi/Alcoy, L'Alcoià, Alicante

Image of Alcoi/Alcoy, not of the place itself.

Jaume I granted in 1256 the carta puebla that founded the Christian centre around the castle, sharing out houses and lands among settlers who came from the north. The town remained a stronghold on a still unstable frontier facing the rebel mountains.
