Canelobre Caves Nature · Busot, L'Alacantí, Alicante The Canelobre Caves open on the north face of the Cabezón de Oro, at 700 metres above sea level, in the municipality of Busot, 23 kilometres from the city of Alicante. They are one of the largest underground cavities in the Valencian Community, with a vault about 70 metres high, comparable to that of a cathedral. The visitable chamber, of more than 80,000 cubic metres, is reached through a 45-metre tunnel opened during the Civil War, then a shelter for Republican aviation. The guided tour descends to a group of formations called the Sagrada Familia, with a column more than 25 metres high, and reaches the El Canelobre stalagmite, more than 100,000 years old, which gives the cave its name. Inside, flowstones, gours and eccentrics can also be seen, among other speleothems. Photo: chisloup (CC BY 3.0) What to see and do in Busot
