Mountain range of el Cid Nature · Petrer, El Vinalopó Mitjà, Alicante Image of Petrer, not of the place itself. A sierra 1,147 metres high, between the districts of Petrer, Novelda, Monforte del Cid and Agost, whose horizontal summit is known as the Silla del Cid for its saddle-like shape. The north face is steep, with walls and crags; Aleppo pine predominates along with kermes oak and esparto grass, and it is home to rabbit, wild boar, Barbary sheep and mouflon. Legend has it that the Cid leapt on horseback from the summit, leaving his hoofprint marked in the rock. Photo: Marek Ślusarczyk (Tupungato) Photo gallery (CC BY 2.5) What to see and do in Petrer
