Granting of the title of town in 1706

Muro attained the status of villa in 1706, in the middle of the War of Succession, which gave it its own justice and council as against Cocentaina. In 1916 the reform of the municipal gazetteer added to it the surname of Alcoy to distinguish it from other Muros in Spain.
