L'Alqueria d'Asnar Village · Alqueria d'Asnar l', El Comtat, Alicante L'Alqueria d'Asnar, formerly known as el Ràfol Blanc, is one of the smallest municipalities in El Comtat, next to Cocentaina, crossed from end to end by the Serpis river, along which grows the largest hackberry forest in the Valencian Country. Of Muslim origin, in 1609 it was inhabited by fourteen Morisco families; in 1626 it received a settlement charter from Josep Aznar, whose lordship was eventually sold in 1697 to the count of Cocentaina. Its recent history is linked to Papeleras Reunidas, maker of Bambú cigarette paper, which drove the growth of the population. The most notable building is the church of Sant Miquel, whose curious tiled bell tower is attributed to Gaudí's influence. On Corpus Christi day, its streets are covered with carpets of flowers and coloured sawdust. Photo: Coentor (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Alqueria d'Asnar l'
