Raval quarter of Elche Curiosity · Elx/Elche, El Baix Vinalopó, Alicante One of the historic districts of Elche, of Morisco origin, next to the old town, known as the Raval de Sant Joan. It was formed after the Muslim uprising of 1265, when Alfonso X of Castile, with the help of the Aragonese king James I, put down the revolt and expelled the Muslim population from the walled enclosure, forcing it to settle in a new settlement next to the Vila Murada, which gave rise to this district.
