Río Seco of Pilar de la Horadada Nature · Pilar de la Horadada, El Baix Segura, Alicante The Río Seco rises in the Sierra Escalona and runs about 15 kilometres to the beaches of Pilar de la Horadada, with rock formations and curious hollows eroded into the walls of its channel. Its surroundings, with Aleppo pine, isolated conifers and abundant Mediterranean grasses and shrubs, link the interior with the coast at the level of the Pinar de Campoverde. Two signposted routes run along the channel, a 4-kilometre circular one among the erosion features and a 10-kilometre linear one to Mil Palmeras, and the area is home to varied wildlife, with birds of prey and the seasonal passage of herons and egrets.
