Festivities of la Virgen del Pilar de Pilar de la Horadada Activity · Pilar de la Horadada, El Baix Segura, Alicante Image of Pilar de la Horadada, not of the place itself. The patron saint festivities of Pilar de la Horadada, in honour of Our Lady of the Pillar, are held between 1 and 21 October. On the 11th, the flower offering takes place, notable because the municipality is Spain's second-largest producer of cut flowers; on the 12th, a solemn mass and procession; and a week later, the parade of floats. Since 1933, a festival queen has been chosen each year to represent the town for the following twelve months. The municipality's very name comes from this devotion: in the 18th century, owing to the patronage of Our Lady of the Pillar, the town came to be called Pilar de la Horadada. 1-21 de octubre Photo: Denzell393 (Public domain) What to see and do in Pilar de la Horadada
