El Cerco de Artajona Monument · Artajona, Valdizarbe-Novenera, Navarra An 11th-century walled precinct begun in 1085 by the canons of San Saturnino de Tolosa, to whom the bishop of Pamplona, Pedro de Roda, granted Artajona, and completed in 1109. It originally had fourteen square crenellated towers linked by a wall-walk, nine of which survive, along with two of its three original gates (San Miguel and Remagua). It is the best-preserved fortified precinct of the former kingdom of Navarre. 1085-1109 Photo: Diego Delso (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Artajona
