At the site of El Congosto, next to Mues, the remains of a 1st-century Roman dam are preserved, which may have supplied water to nearby Calahorra (Calagurris), along with the nearby Castro de Murillo, a pre-Roman settlement that controlled a strategic pass in the valley.
