Santuario de San Miguel de Aralar Monument · Uharte Arakil, Sakana, Navarra At the summit of Mount Putregain (1,265 m), within the territory of Uharte Arakil, stands the sanctuary of San Miguel Excelsis, rebuilt in 1032 and consecrated in 1074 on the site of an earlier pre-Romanesque church. It preserves a late-12th-century Limoges enamel altarpiece —gilded and enameled copper plates measuring 2 x 1.40 m, made up of 39 pieces— commissioned under Bishop Pedro de Artajona. Tradition places here the legend of the knight Teodosio de Goñi, who, after mistakenly killing his parents, defeated a dragon with the archangel's help and was freed from the chains he wore in penance. reconstruido en 1032, consagrado en 1074; retablo de finales del siglo XII Photo: Zarateman (CC0) What to see and do in Uharte Arakil
