Auritz/Burguete Village · Auritz/Burguete, Pirineo, Navarra Auritz/Burguete, at 894 m altitude, is the first Navarrese locality that pilgrims on the Camino Francés reach after descending from Roncesvalles. Its linear street-village layout, with large houses bearing coats of arms lined up on both sides of the pilgrim route, sits on an ancient settlement: the Zaldua site has yielded Roman remains, including baths, along the route of the road linking Astorga and Bordeaux. Ernest Hemingway stayed here during his fishing trips in the 1920s and set chapters of "The Sun Also Rises" in the village. It has 235 inhabitants (INE 2025).
