A municipality 13.6 km northwest of Pamplona, born from the 1942-1943 merger of the former Cendea de Iza with the Valle de Gulina, until then two independent municipalities. It comprises thirteen concejos: Aguinaga, Aldaba, Áriz, Atondo, Cía, Erice (capital), Gulina, Iza, Larumbe, Lete, Ochovi, Sarasa and Sarasate.
