Huarte/Uharte Village · Huarte/Uharte, Comarca de Pamplona, Navarra A municipality 6.7 km from Pamplona whose name comes from the Basque 'ur arte' ('between waters'), owing to its position between the Arga and Ulzama rivers. In 1223 the bishop of Pamplona ceded the town and its castle to King Sancho VII; in 1665 Felipe IV granted it the title of 'buena villa' (chartered royal town) in exchange for 16,000 reales for the Crown. During the Peninsular War it came to house three military hospitals with capacity for 800-1,000 soldiers. Photo: Iñaki Lopez de Luzuriaga (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Huarte/Uharte
