A valley and municipality of 146.77 km² about 20 km from Pamplona, with its capital in Zubiri, which was an obligatory Pyrenean crossing point: a Roman road between Astorga and Bordeaux passed through it and, later, the Camino de Santiago. The first written documentation of the valley dates from 1066, with the donation of a monastery to Leyre. It comprises around 28 settlements, including Eugui, Larrasoaña and Urdániz.
