Berzosa del Lozoya Village · Berzosa del Lozoya, Sierra Norte, Madrid Berzosa del Lozoya is a village of around 242 residents on rugged terrain, at 1,094 metres, on the flank of the Cerro de la Mujer Muerta, within the Ayllón massif, in the Sierra Norte of Madrid. Until the 1916 reform it was simply called Berzosa. The municipal area, covered in cistus scrub, Pyrenean oak and pine woods, is watered by the river Lozoya, the river Riato and the stream of the Barranco de la Hiena, and reaches the El Villar reservoir, one of the first built in the area to supply Madrid with water. In the mid-19th century it had barely 70 inhabitants. Its church is that of the Assumption, and the municipality, with no direct bus connection to the capital, preserves a public nursery school as its only educational service.
