Church of San Cipriano de Cobeña Monument · Cobeña, Cuenca del Medio Jarama, Madrid A parish church begun in the 16th century in transitional Gothic style, on the plaza de la Villa, with three broad naves separated by round arches on Tuscan columns and a large ashlar tower topped by a slate spire. The design is the work of the master builder Martín Górnica, who was succeeded by Pedro de Gonechea and Juan García de Carranza; the tower was built in 1609 and the vaults completed around 1668. It retains an early-16th-century Gothic limestone baptismal font, and its portal follows the Renaissance style with Herrerian influence. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) on 10 October 1996. In 2025 a 17th-century parish book, found in Moldova, was returned to the parish, twenty years after it went missing. Photo: Dirección General de Turismo.
