Ecce Homo hill Nature · Alcalá de Henares, Cuenca del Henares, Madrid The Cerro del Ecce Homo, also called de la Vera Cruz, is a tabular rise of 835 metres that dominates the plain of the Henares, with a difference in height of around two hundred metres. It is part of Los Cerros de Alcalá de Henares, declared a public-utility forest (Spain's forest-protection designation) in the year 2000. The climb is steep but suitable for hiking and cycling, through reforested woodland. On its summit a Carpetani settlement from the Early Iron Age was excavated, with a hut of barely 32 square metres. At its foot flows the river Henares, which empties into the Jarama, which in turn flows into the Tagus. Photo: Alcalá (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Alcalá de Henares
