Settlement of Coll del Moro Monument · Gandesa, Terra Alta, Tarragona The Iberian settlement of Coll del Moro, of the Ilercavones tribe, crowns a mountain overlooking a wide natural corridor between the course of the Ebro and Aragon, in the municipality of Gandesa. It dates from the 6th-5th centuries BC and was dominated by an ellipsoidal tower up to eight metres high that overlooked the settlement; after the Second Punic War, at the end of the 3rd century BC, it went from a watchtower to a fully walled enclosure, with workshops partly devoted to the production of wine and flax. Nearby, a necropolis with three burial areas and tumuli dated between 800 and 450 BC was discovered in 1953, and in 2014 a Roman fort of the 2nd-1st centuries BC was also found. It is Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection) and forms part of the Ruta dels Ibers.
