Terra Alta DO and White Grenache Curiosity · Gandesa, Terra Alta, Tarragona Denomination of origin established in 1972 with the creation of its regulatory council, covering twelve municipalities of the Terra Alta and around 5,820 hectares of vineyard. Among the white varieties, garnatxa blanca stands out, alongside macabeu and parellada, used to produce young, fresh and balanced white wines; in reds, garnatxa negra, garnatxa peluda and samsó dominate, with an intense ruby colour and complex structure. The area has 49 wineries and around 1,250 winegrowers; nearly half of production is exported, much of it to Germany. Among its architectural heritage, the modernist wineries of Pinell de Brai and Gandesa stand out, the work of the architect Cèsar Martinell.
