Cooperative Winery of Gandesa Monument · Gandesa, Terra Alta, Tarragona The Celler Cooperatiu de Gandesa, the work of the modernist architect Cèsar Martinell, a disciple of Gaudí and of Puig i Cadafalch, was completed in 1920 commissioned by the Gandesa Agricultural Cooperation Syndicate, founded by Josep Maria Serres, and was intended for the production of wine and oil. Considered one of the Catalan 'cathedrals of wine' and one of the Seven Wonders of Catalonia of 2007, its main body is formed by three parallel naves of different heights with brick vaults over parabolic diaphragm arches, joined by a further nave for the display of its products. The façade, in three levels with a stone plinth and a ceramic frieze, is decorated with green gargoyles and the coat of arms of the entity, the work of the ceramicist Xavier Nogués. It is declared a cultural asset of national interest. Photo: MARIA ROSA FERRE (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in Gandesa
