La Clotxa Curiosity · Móra d'Ebre, Ribera d'Ebre, Tarragona Image of Móra d'Ebre, not of the place itself. The clotxa is a traditional dish of the Terres de l'Ebre, and especially of the Ribera d'Ebre, consisting of a round loaf partly hollowed of its crumb and filled with smoked herring, onion, tomato and charred garlic, with olive oil and salt; the whole is then covered again with the crumb removed at the start. It was prepared by farm labourers when they went to work in the fields, and it is an expression of the traditional ways of life of the territory: raftsmen, farm labourers, fishermen, olive pickers and grape harvesters. Although the term clotxa is now widespread throughout the district, similar filled loaves exist under other names depending on the town. Since 2004 the Festa de la Clotxa has been held every year, on a Sunday between February and March, a travelling gastronomic event held in the district's municipalities.
