Tower of la Guardiola Monument · Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Montsià, Tarragona It stands on a 113-metre hill west of the village, from where it commands the coast. It is documented in the 15th century, in the 16th it served to watch for corsair landings, and in the 19th it was reused as an optical telegraph tower on the Madrid-la Jonquera line. Its conversion into a religious monument greatly reduced its height: today the remains are crowned by a statue of the Sacred Heart, and the site serves as a viewpoint over the delta.
