Church of Vallclara Monument · Vallclara, Conca de Barberà, Tarragona Church of San Juan Bautista de Vallclara, built as late as the 19th century, between 1804 and 1814 - blessed on 3 September of that year - reusing stones from the old Romanesque church, in a village documented in 1152 as Vallem Claram and under the rule of the monastery of Poblet from 1220; of the castle only the gateway still stands. In Baroque style with a Latin-cross floor plan with a plain apse and choir at the foot, its master builder was Francesc d'Asís Nadal i Roig and it cost 7,500 pounds; its façade displays a doorway with two pilasters with Ionic capitals, an empty niche and a circular window between two triangular pediments. It houses a Neoclassical altarpiece by Feliu Ferrer i Guasch, completed in 1862. Photo: Tabalot (Public domain) What to see and do in Vallclara
