Trepat Curiosity · Montblanc, Conca de Barberà, Tarragona Image of Montblanc, not of the place itself. Trepat, also called trepadell, is a red grape variety native to the Conca de Barberà, where it covers around 1,000 hectares. It buds early and ripens late, with large, compact bunches and berries with thin skin and sweet flavour; it withstands rot well but is sensitive to late frosts and needs cool soils owing to its low tolerance of drought. It is used to make fresh, light and fruity rosé wines of low alcohol content (10-11% vol.), and it is one of the two varieties authorised for making rosé cava. It is protected by the Conca de Barberà and Costers del Segre designations of origin. Photo: José Luis Filpo Cabana (CC BY 3.0) What to see and do in Montblanc
