Founding of Montblanc by Alfonso the Chaste

In February 1163 King Alfons the Chaste moved the settlement to a hill beside the Francolí and granted it a charter of settlement. The new villa grew quickly and in the fourteenth century came to be the seventh of Catalonia by number of inhabitants.
