Castle of Forès Monument · Forès, Conca de Barberà, Tarragona Forès Castle stood at the highest point of the municipal territory, overlooking the village, and was probably built in the mid-11th century; today only the bases of some walls survive, along with lintels and doorways reused in the village houses. It first appears documented in 1038, when the counts of Barcelona ceded it to Mir Foguet and Bernat, though this date may actually correspond to 1058. In 1190 Berenguer de Fluvià sold it to King Alfonso I, and in 1285 King Peter II bequeathed it, together with Sarral and Cabra, to the monastery of Santes Creus, which kept its lordship until 1821, when the castle, already badly deteriorated, was put up for public auction.
