Mountains of Prades (Alt Camp Slope) Nature · Mont-ral, Alt Camp, Tarragona Image of Mont-ral, not of the place itself. The Muntanyes de Prades belong to the Pre-Coastal Range and stretch across five Catalan comarcas, among them Alt Camp, where they cover the municipalities of Mont-ral and la Riba. The massif covers about 30,726 hectares spread over 22 municipalities and reaches its highest point at the Tossal de la Baltasana, 1,203 metres high. It is formed mainly of limestone, dolomite, slate and conglomerate, and five rivers rise from its slopes: the Francolí, the Brugent, the Glorieta, the Siurana and the Prades. The vegetation combines holm oak, kermes oak and oak woods, with a colony of Pyrenean oak unique in Catalonia at 900 metres on siliceous ground, in addition to the centuries-old forest of Poblet; the fauna includes the polecat, the roe deer and the black woodpecker.
