The fiesta mayor of la Riba is celebrated in a town where the waterfall of the Brugent powered, from the 18th century, a cluster of paper mills that supplied cigarette and shaving paper to much of Catalonia well into the 20th century; the floods of 1792 and 1874 destroyed several mills there and caused fatalities.
