The valley was organised into six terçons: Pujòlo, Arties e Garòs, Castièro, Marcatosa, Lairissa and Quate Lòcs. They grouped the towns and sent syndics to the Conselh Generau. The division survived until the nineteenth century and is still an Aranese territorial reference.
