Castle of Arties Monument · Naut Aran, Val d'Aran, Lleida First documented in 1283, when the towers of Entransaigües and Peralèr of Arties were counted among the first points of resistance to the invasion of the valley by the king of France; in 1379 Pere the Ceremonious granted the men of Arties privileges to rebuild it, a privilege confirmed by Felip II in 1586. It stands on a puig overlooking the confluence with the Garona de Valarties, a valley giving access to the passes of Caldes and Vielha. Today, facing the village church, only a bestorre survives, with a semicircular front, an access door at ground level, arrow slits and a bell-gable finish; tradition links it to the Templars and to an underground passage as far as Sant Pelegrí.
