Ramon Folc de Cardona-Anglesola was born in Bellpuig around 1467 and died in Naples on 10 March 1522. He distinguished himself in 1505 as admiral in the conquest of Mazalquivir and served Ferdinand the Catholic in the Italian Wars; he was viceroy of Sicily between 1507 and 1509 and of Naples from 1509 until his death, a post in which he managed to get the king to give up introducing the Inquisition there, and as captain general of the Holy League he fought at Ravenna in 1512, where he was defeated. After the death of Ferdinand the Catholic in 1516 he received the oath of fidelity from the Neapolitan nobles. He was buried in Bellpuig, in a Renaissance mausoleum of Carrara marble commissioned by his widow, Elisabet de Requesens, from the sculptor Giovanni Merliano da Nola, and moved in 1841-1842 to the church of San Nicolás. 1467-1522 Photo: Chixoy (Wikimedia Commons) (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Bellpuig
