Castle of Ardèvol Monument · Pinós, Solsonès, Lleida A rectangular tower built around the mid-10th century, together with those of Pinós, Vallferosa and Torà, when the eastern frontier of the county of Urgell was organised against the Muslim lands. The castle already existed around 986, and in 1027 a church of Sant Just is documented in its territory; from the 13th century it had its own lords - Guerau d'Ardèvol in 1222, Ponç d'Ardèvol in 1273 - and from 1314 it belonged to the viscounty, and later county, of Cardona. The original tower, rectangular in plan at 8 by 4.70 metres with walls 150 cm thick, still stands about 15 metres high, with a door set 6 metres above the ground. Around the 12th century a circular tower about 11 metres in diameter was added, enclosing it, which collapsed in the 1930s. Photo: jordi domènech (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Pinós
