Castle of Sunyer Monument · Sunyer, Segrià, Lleida Image of Sunyer, not of the place itself. A termenat castle that gives its name to the municipality of Sunyer, in the Segrià, built in the 12th century. It is first documented in 1218, when Ramon de Cervera sold the lordship to Arnau de Sanaüja; it later passed to the Sescomes and to the Borriac family, and from the 15th century belonged to the chapter of Lleida until the abolition of the lordships in the 19th century. Romanesque in style, its ruins stand on a hill to the northwest of the village: only fragments of the perimeter wall remain, up to two metres high, along with an underground gallery dug during the Spanish Civil War and a circular storeroom. Over time it served as a quarry for local buildings. Photo: Ivan bea (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Sunyer
