Castle of Corbins Monument · Corbins, Segrià, Lleida Image of Corbins, not of the place itself. The castle of Corbins stands on the summit of the hill that overlooks the town from the north, on the right bank of the Noguera Ribagorçana, almost at its confluence with the Segre; a large manor house survives along with the remains of what may have been an old tower. The first reference dates from the 10th century, when according to the geographer al-Rāzī it was one of the most important castles in the territory of Lérida. It was a key border point between the cities of Lérida and Balaguer, conquered from the Muslims shortly before 1117 by Count Ramon Berenguer III, recaptured by the Almoravids in 1126, and definitively reconquered around 1149. Ramon Berenguer IV then handed it over to the Order of the Temple, which established a commandery there in 1163; with the dissolution of the Temple it passed in 1317 to the Order of the Hospital.
