Castle of Montagut Monument · Alcarràs, Segrià, Lleida Image of Alcarràs, not of the place itself. Castle located in the municipal area of Alcarràs, in the Segrià, in the Vilot area, near the church, of which only slight vestiges remain today after the settlement was razed between 1970 and 1979. It was one of the Muslim strongholds that the alcaide of Lleida ibn Hilal ceded to the count of Barcelona Ramon Berenguer III in 1120, together with the castle of Alcarràs. It belonged to the lineages of Cervera and Cardona, and in 1249 Guillem II of Cardona sold it, together with Alcarràs, to Tomàs de Santcliment. From 1501 it remained in the hands of the chapter of the Seu de Lleida until the disentailment. The settlement remained deserted from 1643 and was not resettled until the late 19th century; in the 20th century everything was destroyed when a track was built and the hill levelled.
