Castle of la Cardosa Monument · Cervera, Segarra, Lleida The castle of la Cardosa stands in the urban centre of the village of la Cardosa, in the district of Cervera, Segarra comarca. It is a large building of quadrangular plan, with a double-pitched roof and a ground floor, two upper floors and an attic. The main door, a voussoired round arch preceded by three steps, is flanked by two buttresses, and windows of different sizes open on the upper floors. The place has been known since the 11th century, when it formed a quadra under several knights; in 1452 Guillem de Tàrrega bought the lordship, and the present building comes from a 17th-century renovation that turned it into a fortified manor house, with the date 1678 carved on the doorway. In the early 19th century the last lords were the Montull and Tello families. The manor house, later converted into a masoveria (tenant farmstead), was restored by the artist Montse Gomis, who made it her residence and a space for art and culture.
