Castle of Castellnou Monument · Cervera, Segarra, Lleida The castle of Castellnou d'Oluges stands on the left bank of the Sió river, on the hill where the walled village of Castellnou, annexed to Cervera, sits, in the Segarra. Documented since the 11th century, when it formed part of the county of Berga, it passed through the hands of the viscounts of Àger and Cabrera and in 1105 was divided between the canonries of Seu d'Urgell and Solsona. During the 12th and 13th centuries it was linked to the Cervera family, and from the late 13th century to the Oluja family, who gave it its present name; in 1358 it had 23 hearths. During the Catalan civil war (1462-1472) John II ceded it to his captain Rodrigo de Bobadilla. Much deteriorated, it preserves perimeter wall sections to the west and north, a rectangular tower eight metres high and the voussoired gateway giving access to the old walled village.
