Tremp historically had a very small district. Between 1970 and 1973 it absorbed the former municipalities of Espluga de Serra, Fígols de Tremp, Gurp de la Conca, Palau de Noguera, Sapeira, Suterranya and Vilamitjana, and became the most extensive municipality in the country.
