Church of Sant Martí de la Torre Monument · la Torre de Cabdella, Pallars Jussà, Lleida The church of Sant Martí de la Torre, formerly known as Sant Martí de Ballmoll, is a Romanesque church documented since the year 996, although the surviving building, from the 11th century, appears to rework an earlier, larger construction, perhaps destroyed by a flood, from which the base of the bell tower would have been reused as the nave: hence its disproportion, with a very tall rectangular body that, seen from outside, looks more like a bell tower than a church. It is roofed with a single slope of local slate slabs and has a small Lombard apse with a saw-tooth frieze over eight blind arches and a splayed window; the door, on the west side, has a double stepped arch. The church was linked to the monastery of Santa María de Lavaix, which might explain its dimensions. It is a listed monument. Photo: Kippelboy (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in la Torre de Cabdella
