Hydroelectric power station of Cabdella Historical milestone · la Torre de Cabdella, Pallars Jussà, Lleida The Cabdella power plant, built between 1911 and 1914 by Energia Elèctrica de Catalunya with French and Swiss capital, was the first large hydroelectric plant in operation in Catalonia; it harnesses an 840-metre drop in the Vall Fosca, within the municipality of la Torre de Cabdella (Pallars Jussà). It is protected as a local cultural heritage asset. A small settlement grew up around it for its workers, which became one of the most populated in the municipality, with 138 inhabitants in 1970; the modern church of the Virgin of Montserrat stands in the settlement, and to the northwest the ruins of that of Sant Miquel d'Estaiposi are preserved. Part of its facilities now houses the Cabdella Hydroelectric Museum, which belongs to the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia. 1911-1914 Photo: Gustau Erill i Pinyot (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in la Torre de Cabdella
