Tower of Fontdepou Monument · Àger, Noguera, Lleida The tower of Fontdepou, today integrated into the settlement of Fontdepou, was part of the castle of the same name, within the jurisdiction of the castle of Àger (Noguera, Lleida), within a network of watchtowers guarding access to the valleys. Although not directly documented, the castle of Fontdepou and the neighbouring church of Sant Macari are already mentioned in 1048, with references in 1066, 1072-1073 and 1196. It was built around the 11th century, with walls of well-squared granite ashlar bonded with mortar. It is a circular tower of three storeys of which only the lower part and the start of the first floor survive, with an internal diameter of 3.4 metres and walls 140 cm thick; it is covered by a false dome and retains a height of about 6 metres, compared with the at least 10 it would have had originally.
