Montsec Massif Nature · Àger, Noguera, Lleida Image of Àger, not of the place itself. Limestone mountain range reaching 1,676 metres at the Tossal de les Torretes, the gateway to the Pyrenees from the Lleida plain. The massif consists of three ranges, the Montsec d'Estall or de Benavarri, the Montsec d'Ares and the Montsec de Rúbies, and extends about 45 kilometres across three Catalan comarcas. More than half of Catalonia's bat species live in its ravines, and here the Pyrenean brook newt reaches the southern limit of its range; the massif is also home to otters, martens and various birds of prey. Protected natural areas cover 53% of its Catalan surface, amounting to 41,639 hectares. Photo: jordi domènech (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Àger
