Castle and Collegiate Church of Sant Pere d'Àger Monument · Àger, Noguera, Lleida The complex of Sant Pere d'Àger, declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Spain's national-level heritage protection designation), is formed by the town's walled precinct, the castle and the outbuildings of the old canonical monastery. The castle, the oldest part of the settlement owing to its strategic position, began to be built in the 11th century on the remains of an earlier wall; only remains of the ground floor of a large rectangular building with two parallel naves survive from it. Of the canonry of Sant Pere, whose first community was established in 1037, important partly restored ruins survive: the church, with a basilical floor plan with three naves and a chevet with semicircular apses, together with the remains of the Gothic cloister and a Renaissance doorway leading to the chapter house.
