Village of Saraís Curiosity · la Vall de Boí, Alta Ribagorça, Lleida Image of la Vall de Boí, not of the place itself. A small hamlet in the Vall de Boí, between Barruera and Erill la Vall, situated at 1,337 meters above sea level on the left bank of the Noguera de Tor river. Documented around 1070 in agreements between Pallars counts, it belonged to the barons and later counts of Erill until the manorial estates were abolished in 1831. A fire destroyed much of the original hamlet, including its Romanesque church, which forced residents to relocate next to the river; the old village was abandoned and today only a few houses survive near the Palanca de Saraís, such as Casa Arnalló and Casa Capdevila. It is the only village in the Vall de Boí whose church, dedicated to Sant Llorenç, is not Romanesque, although it preserves remains of a Romanesque apse on the site of the old abbey.
