Village of Cóll Curiosity · la Vall de Boí, Alta Ribagorça, Lleida The hamlet of Cóll, in the municipality of the Vall de Boí (Alta Ribagorça, Lleida), has been documented since 1054 as part of the term of Castilló de Tor. It had its own town council from 1812 until it was absorbed into Barruera in 1847; in 1553 the fogatge (hearth tax count) attributed it 13 hearths, around 65 inhabitants. It lies at 1,164 meters above sea level, on the right bank of the Noguera de Tor river, below the narrows of les Cabanasses. Its church, originally dedicated to Santa Maria de Cóll and today to l'Assumpció, is Romanesque from the 12th century; it preserves a Gothic altarpiece and two 16th-century carvings, and stands apart from the village, to the southeast, today serving as the cemetery church. The ensemble, declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (the Catalan heritage-protection category equivalent to the national Bien de Interés Cultural), forms part of the Romanesque ensemble of the Vall de Boí, a World Heritage Site.
